As the popularity of the 500/1 violin bass grew, it was decided in 1964 to offer the 500/2 club bass as an alternative. It is aimed at musicians who are looking for the unique Höfner sound, but do not want to look like McCartney. The body has been produced for guitars since 1954. So it wasn't rocket science to combine the neck of the violin bass with a club body to create a new product. The 500/2 Club Bass is still manufactured today with the same components as in 1964. Many musicians prefer the 500/2 club bass over the 500/1 violin bass because it has a slightly larger body with an almost identical sound. With a completely hollow body and a 76cm shortscale scale, it is light as a feather and easy to play.
Spruce top with flamed maple back and sides and 3 piece maple and beech neck - the bass also has solid beech sustain block built into the body - all topped off with Hofners fantastic staple pickups.
