The Fender Bass VI was first released in 1961 – It departed from the “traditional” concept of the Fender Bass in having six strings, a shorter scale, thinner strings, and a mechanical vibrato arm.
The Bass VI has six strings, tuned E to E, an octave below a standard guitar. The Bass VI is closely related to the Fender Jaguar, with which it shares styling and technical details, notably the Fender floating tremolo. The VI has an offset body similar but not identical to that of the Jazzmaster/Jaguar.
This Pawn Shop Series Bass VI was released by Fender in 2013. In line with the series' purpose to reconfigure classic Fender designs, this version of the Bass VI has a Jazzmaster-type humbucking bridge pickup and a Stratocaster-style five-position pickup selector, as opposed to separate switches of the original design. Finished in brown sunburst with a tortoiseshell pickguard this is classic Fender.
You may not realise that you have heard a Bass VI in action, however there are some very notable players - George Harrison and John Lennon, on tracks where Paul McCartney plays either piano or guitar on The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be – Joe Perry of Aerosmith on Back in the Saddle – and of course Glen Campbell plays both the bass line and hook on Wichita Lineman on a Bass VI. And who could forget Nigel in Spinal Tap and his Bass VI that he wouldn’t play and wouldn’t even let anyone else look at.
The guitar is in mint condition - you wouldn't think this is 10 years old. It has a set of used strings onboard - they are nicely played in, however we have included a new set of Fender Bass VI strings if you are looking for that brighter twang. The guitar comes complete with its original padded Fender gig bag and assorted case candy/hang tags.
