Introduced by Guild in 1977 the B-301 solid bass was manufactured until 1981. With a Mahogany body shape not seen before this striking looking bass also included a new style of bridge tailpiece and a large single coil pickup that has a lovely big bass output.
This red finished 1978 Guild B-301 is all original with exception of the nut which has been changed to a metal one and the machine heads that have been changed to the Grover version of the original Schaller tuners. The pots are dated ’78, matching in with serial number, with all other hardware and electrics as built in the factory. Hard to find one these days in this red finish without breaks or major alterations.
The bass has been well played over the years and has plenty of small dings around the edges to show for it. It also has some finish missing at the bottom edge of the headstock from resting on a hanger or stand. There is also a vacant hole at the rear of the heel where a second strap button was obviously fitted in the past. The bass weighs in at a very manageable 3.85 kg and still plays and sounds fantastic - comes complete with a superbly enhanced and altered case.
