This vintage 1977 Japanese made Takamine was clearly “inspired by” the Martin OO-18, even down to the cheeky headstock shape and Takamine headstock logo. The quality of these vintage Takamine guitars is superb. The guitar has a solid Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides – the aged wood provides a great tone and projection. The Rosewood fretboard and frets are in great condition and the guitar has been setup with a new set of Ernie Ball Earthwood 12s on board. A previous owner has upgraded the tuners to a set of quality Wilkinson tuners.
The guitar does have some signs of its 47+ years – there are some small marks and a light scratch to the top and some small marks to the headstock (see last 3 pictures) – and the scratch plate was removed (and lost) at some point in the past. The guitar has the excellent Fishman Rare Earth sound hole pickup fitted with an end pin jack input.
The guitar comes complete with a Takamine branded hard case, which is slightly oversized for the guitar, and has some replacement hinges, but does the job just fine.
