Product Details

This vintage classical guitar was made in 1976 by Tatsuhiko Hirose, the son of Hirohiko. Hirohiko Hirose started his luthier’s career in late 1930s, making violins and Japanese traditional string instruments. His oldest guitars are dated to early 1960s.

Hirohiko was one of many less known Japanese luthier pioneers who, along with more famous luthiers. were adopting Spanish blueprints and modernizing Japanese Luthiery. Hirohiko was highly regarded in Japan and had enough clients, yet never became well known outside Japan. He was running small traditional workshop located in Nagoya, being helped by just one apprentice at the time. At some point in time his only apprentice was his own son Tatsuhiko and both names were printed on the labels.

This guitar was made in 1976 by Tatsuhiko Hirose, being one of his midrange models, bettered only models 20 and 30. The label is signed by Tatsuhiko, continuing his father’s tradition. It is a 630mm scale guitar with regular sized body – top is top grade solid spruce with solid Rosewood back and sides. The guitar is in really great condition, especially considering its age. There is some wear to the top of the headstock and some small marks to the Spruce top – shown on our last 3 pictures. There are some very very light marks to the back but nothing we could capture with the camera. And it plays and sounds fantastic – the aging of the wood has produced a wonderful, well balance, tone. The guitar comes complete with a modern hard shell case.
