Product Details

After the initial, short, introduction in 1958, Gibson decided to relaunch the Explorer in 1976 – These early production 1st-year models were made as "Limited Editions", with a large feeling, chunky "C" shape 1-piece mahogany neck and gold hardware.

There weren’t too many of these Limited Edition models made and they are becoming harder to find, especially in the superb, all original, condition that we have with this example. The frets and Rosewood fretboard are in super condition. The body is also in great condition with only a couple of small marks on the bass side of the body. It is only the slight tarnishing to the gold hardware gives away the fact that this guitar is actually approaching 50 years old. The “tar back” humbuckers sound fantastic and the 1976 pot codes back up the Limited Edition serial number decal.

One of the most famous examples of these Explorers is owned and played by the Edge. He's used it in most of the U2 recordings, if not all of them, and he played it for the majority of his tours until he retired it from the road and kept it for studio recordings only.

The guitar comes complete with its original hard case with purple plush lining. Great chance to pick up a fantastic example of this iconic Gibson model.
