Gurian Guitars was one of the earliest "boutique" acoustic guitar makers in the United States, offering an alternative product to those of the larger, factory-based makers of the day, with instruments characterized by a distinctive shape, features and sound. Approximately 5,000 instruments, designed by luthier Michael Gurian, were manufactured from 1965 through to 1981.
Gurian guitars were played by Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, ABBA, John Sebastian, Stephen Stills, Joan Baez. Paul Simon has often said his Size 3 J-R is his favourite guitar, despite have his own Martin signature model!
This 1974 Gurian Size 3 J-R (Jumbo Rosewood) is in truly fantastic condition with only a small mark and some light lacquer cracking to show for its 50 years. It features Indian Rosewood back and sides and a Spruce top, decorated with herringbone inlay around the top and sound hole. The guitar is a joy to play and with the mature wood giving a deep, clear and warm tone a fantastic acoustic guitar. The guitar has previously had a sound hole pickup fitted as can be seen from small rubbing marks to the finish either side of the sound hole and the end pin jack. The guitar comes complete with (original?) hard case.
