1970s Ibanez Pro 523 F-Style Hand Carved Mandolin
Ibanez (made in Japan) mandolins from the 70s are well-respected and fairly affordable as far as vintage, fully-carved, F-style Mandolins go. Can’t date the instrument precisely, however looks to be from 1976/77 judging by the old Ibanez catalogues.
Construction is a carved solid top of selected Spruce with selected solid curly Maple back and sides. The hard curly maple neck has an ebonised rosewood fretboard with mother of pearl block inlays. It is finished off with gold plated hardware and adjustable Rosewood bridge. Only non-original part of the Mandolin is the scratch plate with the original having suffered with off-gassing.
The Mandolin is in really good condition, especially as it approaches 50 years old, with only some loss of gold finish to the tail piece, a small mark to the top and some wear to the top of the headstock to show for its age. Comes complete with a padded gig bag.
