The Japanese made Ibanez 600-series were inspired by familiar American made flattop guitars such as in this case the Martin D-28. The 696 model was produced by Ibanez for 1974 and ran through to 1978.
This 696 is one of the higher end models and features selected rosewood back and sides, a spruce top, rosewood fretboard and mahogany neck. The neck on this guitar has a surprisingly slim profile, and may appeal especially to those accustomed to playing electric guitars. With the aging of the wood this guitar has a wonderful tone and, combined with nice action, is a joy to play.
The guitar has plenty of marks to show for its age (see last 4 pictures) and a replacement truss rod cover - but overall it is in great shape for its age.
