The Fender Jaguar was introduced as a high-end model guitar four years after the Jazzmaster. Though similar to the Jazzmaster in its offset body and lead/rhythem circuits controls, the Jaguar differed in two key ways. For one, the Jaguar used a shorter 24-inch scale length compared to the 25 1/2-inch of most Fender guitars. Additionally, the Jaguar used two thinner single-coil pickups compared to the feedback-prone soapbox pickups of the Jazzmaster. The Jaguar was not as popular as the Telecaster or Strat in its initial run, but has found some popularity with punk, grunge and indie rockers since with Kurt Cobain, Johnny Marr, Carl Wilson the most notable players
This 1964 Fender Jaguar has a superb sunburst refinish – other than the finish, and the saddle screws, the guitar is all original. The neck has Dec 64 stamp which ties in with pot codes of week 50 of 1964. The guitar has an Alder body, with a bolt on Maple neck with Rosewood veneer fretboard with pearloid inlays and double line Kluson Deluxe tuners. The neck looks like it has had a light overspray at some point and there is a small ding to the top of the headstock. The original mute pieces are also included in the original black tolex hard case.
This pre-CBS Fender Jaguar really does look stunning – freshly set up with a set of Regular Slinky strings it plays and sounds as good as it looks.
