The Hofner Verithin appeared in the Selmer London catalogue of 1960, at around the same time as Hofner introduced the same basic guitar with the 4574 model designation in the general European market price list.
The Verithin features a hollow, twin cutaway body with a depth of only 30mm. Laminated flame maple is used for the body back & sides, with a double “Venetian” cutaway laminated spruce top.
The neck is a three-piece maple/beech set-neck with Pearloid/tortoishell strip fret-markers inlaid into the rosewood fingerboard, and a "President-style" bell-flower design inlaid into the ebony fascia of the headstock. For the first year or so, the guitar was finished in "russet-mahogany", but this then changed to this brighter "Cherry Red" finish that is synonymous with the Verithin.
The "Lyre" style tailpiece that would have been fitted to this Verithin has been replaced at some point with an original 1960s Bigsby B5 tailpiece and its associated metal floating bridge – the original fitting instructions for the Bigsby are provided with this guitar. Not the normal Bigsby you would see on a Verithin as the factory fitted units were the B6 model.
The floating pickguard is missing from this guitar but it does still have its original tuners and Pekalit cream knobs and Hofner “Staple” pickups.
The guitar is in great condition although, as you would expect from a 60+ year old guitar it does have some minor scars to the front of the guitar (see last 2 pictures). It still plays great and the sound from these Staple pickups is brilliant. The guitar comes complete with a brand new Hofner Verythin fitted case.
