The J-45 is Gibson's best-selling, and probably most famous, acoustic guitar. First introduced in 1942, this iconic acoustic is renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection. Classic combination of Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck with a Rosewood fretboard.
The top on this 1963 model is finished in Cherry Sunburst, which was standard for the J-45 from 1962 through to 1967. The top and body is in superb condition, especially considering the guitar is 61+ years old. There are 2 small marks on the top, one on the bass side shoulder and some minor lacquer checking (see last 3 pictures). The back also has some light scratches but none that we were able to capture with the camera. All in the guitar is in fantastic condition with the original single line deluxe tuners all working as they should, and the frets and fretboard in equally great condition.
The 1963 J-45 ADJ had a bolt on plastic bridge with an adjustable saddle that you could raise and lower with screws - The adjustable saddle is the ADJ part of the guitar’s model number. Not one of Gibson’s better ideas they reverted to a standard Rosewood glued bridge in 1964. The plastic bridge on this guitar had cracked so has been replaced with a more tradition bridge with non-adjustable saddle – the original bridge has been retained and is included in the case.
The guitar has been setup with low action and a new set on 12s on board. It plays very easily and sounds great with the aged wood giving great tone and balanced projection. The guitar comes complete with a Hiscox hardshell case and an LR Baggs sound hole pickup.
