1962 Jose Ramirez 1A, handmade in Madrid, Spain.
The guitar has a Spruce Soundboard and Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides. The Ebony fretboard has a 664 mm scale length, with a 52 mm nut width
The blue/grey bordered label, dated 1962, indicates that this is one of Ramirez first quality handmade guitars (1A). It also has the initials "A.M." stamped on the heal signifying that this guitar was built by Antonio Martinez Ortega who also built Segovia's famous and long-favoured 1969 Ramirez. The rich tone and strong projection of older Ramirez guitars have been famous since the days when the father of modern classical guitar playing performed on one during the high point of his long career on the world's stages. Andres Segovia made these guitars perhaps the most sought after of any classical "brand".
This beautiful, early Sixties Ramirez in extremely good condition – only a small chip on the top of the headstock and a small mark on the upper treble side of the top to show for its 63 years. There is some minor grooves on the ebony fretboard, and the action at the 12th fret is slightly higher than ideal at 4mm, but the guitar still plays and sounds fantastic.
The guitar has been setup with a new set of Augustine strings and comes complete with a modern hard shell case.
