1962 Fender Telecaster Neck, complete with Neck Plate and Neck Screws
This 1962 Fender Telecaster neck is from the main working guitar of guitarist Bob Sanders, who was one of Gene Vincent’s Blue Caps. The guitar was bought 2 nd hand by Bob in 1969. Well played and well used over the years the guitar went through many changes over the years to the point where only the neck, neck plate and neck screws and saddles remained of the original guitar (we are selling the saddles separately).
The maple neck has a date stamp on heal of “3 MAY 62B” and a slab board Brazilian Rosewood fretboard. The back of the neck has been over-sprayed with lacquer at some point – this is very common with older necks as players wanted to restore the protective lacquer that wore away with constant play. As can be seen on the pictures the fretboard is heavily pitted along the first 7/8 frets of the neck (again pure play wear) and the frets are heavily worn and grooved over the same section. The nut looks to be original but does have a 7 th slot in between A & D string slots. We have been able to play this neck and despite the wear the neck still plays really well with the ’62 profile very comfortable to play, although the neck will clearly require a re-fret sooner rather than later.
The Single Line Kluson tuners, and ferrules, are all original to the ’62 neck with exception of the top tuner which has been replaced at some point by a 1970s Double line Kluson tuner – the low E tuner and D tuner arms are slightly bent but still function as they should.
Included in the sale is the original Neck Plate, with serial number 87590, along with the 4 neck screws, all original to the 1962 guitar.
