1960 Hofner 500/5 Bass Guitar - full hollowbodied archtop bass guitar, often called the"Sutcliffe" Bass because this was the model played by the Beatles original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe back in the bands Hamburg days. This beautiful vintage burst finished instrument is in remarkable condition for its age and is in fully playable working order with nice low action across the fretboard. We understand all the parts are original including the toaster pickups, with only the Hofner "teacup" knobs having been replaced.
Although played extensively back in the 60's the instrument has been really well cared for and is in comparatively excellent condition with no serious dings or scratches on the body. There is some wear to the finish evident to the treble side of the top of the neck, and further wear evident to the top of the headstock. The heel looks to have been refinished - suspect as part of a previous neck reset. There is a small mark to the finish on the treble side of the body, and a vacant screw hole on the back of the neck, near where it meets the body. There are some additional screws in the pickup surrounds to hold in place (see last 4 pictures). Other than these minor items the bass is in great condition. Comes complete with a brand new Hofner Acoustic Bass case - perfect fit for this vintage Hofner bass.
