Product Details
The Hofner "Clubs" were small hollow-bodied archtop guitars, and this version is the basic Club model with one pickup and very little decoration. These very early models have the simple circular control panel with just volume and tone rotary controls. This style of Club 40 is the same model/year as George Harrisons first "electric guitar" (he swapped a Hofner President for it) - John Lennon's first Electric was also a Club 40 but his was a year later and had the rectangular control panel - This hollow bodied electric guitar was promoted by Hofner at the time as being built on semi-acoustic principles with give the tone a round character not found on other instruments. Fitted with the Hofner "Slendaneck" for faster playing speed.
This Blonde 1958 Hofner Club 40 is in fantastic condition. All original with the exception of the 2 control knobs (modern versions of the classic teacup knobs) and the tone capacitor which has been replaced with a Jupiter Bumblebee .022uf Paper in Oil Capacitor. The original Preh pots are dated 1958 and the serial number also comes back to 1958 manufacture date. The black bar pickup has the rosewood sides and the guitar still has its 2 original dog lead strap connectors. There is a small loss of finish to the bass side shoulder of the body (see last picture), but other than that guitar is in brilliant condition. Comes complete with padded gig bag.
