The 500/1, which had been produced by Hofner for only European consumption since 1956, was finally introduced into the UK by Selmer in 1963 as the Violin Bass - Used, then and now, by a gentleman called Sir Paul McCartney.
This 1964 Hofner 500/1 Bass is all original with the exception of the string guide, saddle insert on the bridge and the heal mounted strap button. Pot codes are for 1963 which is common for a ’64 Hofner bass. The bass is in super condition considering its 60 years of age – although, as you would expect, it does have some very small marks on the body (see last 6 pictures) and it is obviously missing its scratch plate – although many prefer the look of this bass without the scratch plate.
The bass comes complete with a “modern” fitted hard case and is strung with a nice set of flat wound strings.
