1940s Rex Royal Archtop

Probably built by either Kay or Harmony – the pressed steel tail piece and machine heads are typical to archtops built by both companies post WWII – the very tight burst finish to the top, smaller heal design and style of the F holes are more typical of Harmony built guitars of the period – especially the Harmony Monterey.

Considering this guitar is circa 80 years old it is in great condition – yes there are small marks to the front back and sides of the guitar but with the black gloss finish it is very difficult to capture these in the pictures – there is some loss of finish to the rear edge of the body and vacant screw hole to the top and to the side where a scratch plate would have been fitted – see last 4 pictures. Also the arm of the D tuner is slightly bent - although still works exactly as it should do.

The guitar plays and sounds great, with nice action, and set up with a new set of Earthwood 11s. Frets and Rosewood fretboard are in great shape, although there is a dent to the 13 th fret on the A string that does produce a buzz when playing the octave A#. The guitar comes complete with a very cool period hard case.
